Cherry Point Aquatics junior lifeguard course is for kids ages 11-14 years old. Participants enrolled get to learn what lifeguards do and have an opportunity to practice various skills.
- Participants must pass a prerequisite swim test.
- Register before July 7 to receive a t-shirt.
- Cost is $150/participant.
- Participants receive an American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard certification after successful completion.
The prerequisite swim test will be given on the first day of class and includes:
- Complete the water competency sequence without stopping.
- a. Step into water from the side and totally submerge.
- b. Maintain position for 1 minute by treading water or floating (or a combination of the two)
- c. Rotate one full turn and orient to the exit,
- d. Level off and swim on the front or back 25 yards.
- e. Exit without using a ladder or steps.
- Swim the breaststroke for 25 yards using a pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence.
- Submerge feet-first or head-first and swim under water for 10 feet.
All classes are located aboard MCAS Cherry Point. It is the sole responsibility of the registrant to ensure they have base access. MCCS will not sponsor or facilitate access for any participant enrolled in an Aquatics program.
- Please bring the signed Aquatics Hold Harmless document to the first day of camp.
