Helping Children Grow While Parents Serve

Helping Children Grow While Parents Serve

For Marines and their families, service is a shared commitment. The demands of military life—deployments, training, and frequent moves—require strong, reliable support systems.

On-base child development centers (CDCs) play a vital role by offering more than childcare. They provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment where children can thrive, allowing parents to focus on their mission with confidence.

A Foundation of Trust and Quality

Marine Corps CDCs uphold the highest standards of care and education. Programs are DoD-certified and accredited by nationally recognized organizations such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), ensuring exceptional quality.

Safety is paramount, with facilities undergoing regular, unannounced inspections to maintain secure, well-supervised environments.

Excellence in Early Education: The Early Learning Matters Curriculum

Marine Corps CDCs use the research-based Early Learning Matters (ELM) Curriculum, developed by Purdue University.

Built on a “child-initiated, teacher-supported” approach, ELM emphasizes learning through play, whole-child development, and individualized growth. Child and Youth Program (CYP) professionals observe each child and tailor activities to support the child’s unique strengths and developmental needs.

A Nurturing Community for Families

CDCs are more than classrooms—they are supportive communities. Highly trained staff provide personalized care, while strong parent partnerships and open-door policies encourage family involvement.

Inclusive, developmentally appropriate environments help children build confidence, respect, and a sense of belonging.

Supporting the Mission by Supporting Families

The Child and Youth Program strengthens military readiness by ensuring children are safe, engaged, and thriving.

When Marines know their children are receiving high-quality care and education, they can focus fully on their duties. CDCs honor the service of military families by preparing children for success in school and in life.
